A factory assembly line is a manufacturing process in which parts or materials are moved from workstation to workstation where they are processed by workers. Gantry Assembly Line Machinery
This type of assembly line is used for assembling large numbers of parts that need to be moved from workstation to workstation. The moving gantry system consists of a column with a pivoting section at the top and a fixed platform at each end. Each length of the gantry is looped around the pivot so that it can move along a guide rail. The guide rail uses a series of rollers to transport the parts or material to the desired workstation.
Research and industrial design of the machines are carried out at companies such as Bosch, Siemens, ABB, and AB Electrolux. Developments to improve the working efficiency and also to make the assembly line more flexible are constantly under way.
Machinery for manufacturing some sophisticated electronic parts has been developed in order to reduce cost and enhance precision.
One example is the “transformer-type robotic assembly line”. The robot is placed on a moving platform that guides it with great speed across a collection of work stations.
